Notice is hereby given that the Borough of Tamaqua will conduct a public meeting on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., in the Borough Building, 320 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the public meeting is, among other things, to discuss, inform and receive public comments on a proposed Ordinance for the Borough of Tamaqua, as follows: ORDINANCE NO. _____ BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, REVISING AND AMENDING CHAPTER 260 ("SEWERS AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL"), SECTION 260-29 ("SEWER RENTALS AND CHARGES"), OF THE BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA CODE OF ORDINANCES ESTABLISHING SEWER RENTALS AND CHARGES TO INCREASE THE SEWER RENTAL OR CHARGE FOR DWELLING UNITS TO $150.00 PER QUARTER BEGINNING DECEMBER 1, 2025 AND TO $170.00 PER QUARTER BEGINNING DECEMBER 1, 2027. BE IT ENACTED AND ORDAINED by Borough Council of the Borough of Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and it is hereby enacted and ordained by the authority of the same, to revise and amend Chapter 260, Section 260-29(A)-(C), to read as follows, increasing the sewer rental or charge for dwelling units to $150.00 per quarter beginning December 1, 2025 and to $ 170.00 per quarter beginning December 1, 2027: Chapter 260 Sewers and Sewage Disposal § 260-29 Sewer rentals of charges. A. Dwelling units. The sewer rental or charge for sewage discharged into the sewer system for each billing unit constituting a dwelling unit shall be at the rate of $600 per annum, payable at the rate of $150 per quarter annum, effective December 1, 2025 and to $ 170.00 per quarter beginning December 1, 2027. B. Commercial, industrial and institutional establishments (1) Except as otherwise provided in this article, sewer rentals or chargers for sewage discharged into the sewers and sewer system from any billing unit constituting a commercial establishment, industrial establishment or institutional establishment shall be based upon the volume of metered water usage, adjusted, if appropriate, as provided in this article, or upon the actual metered volume of sewage discharged into such sewers and the sewer system, as applicable and as permitted in this article. Such sewer rentals or charges shall be computed in accordance with the following metered rate schedule: Metered Rate Schedule Effective December 1, 2025 Consumption of Water or Discharge of Sanitary Sewage and Industrial Waste into the Sewer System, as Applicable (gallons per quarter) Rental Rate per Quarter 15,000 or less $150.00 Next 85,000 $8.90 per 1,000 gallons Next 100,000 $7.64 per 1,000 gallons Over 200,000 $6.38 per 1,000 gallons Metered Rate Schedule Effective December 1, 2027 Consumption of Water or Discharge of Sanitary Sewage and Industrial Waste into the Sewer System, as Applicable (gallons per quarter) Rental Rate per Quarter 15,000 or less $170.00 Next 85,000 $10.15 per 1,000 gallons Nest 100,000 $8.71 per 1,000 gallons Over 200,000 $7.27 per 1,000 gallons (2) Absence of water meter or sewer meter. (a) If any billing unit constituting a commercial establishment, industrial establishment or institutional establishment shall not have installed therein a water meter or meters or, at the option of this Borough, a sewer meter or meters for the purpose of making possible the determination of sewer rentals or charges under provisions of this article, then and in that event the sewer rentals or charges imposed upon any such establishment, until such meter or meters shall be installed, shall be based upon water consumption or sewage discharge, as estimated by this Borough; provided, however, that the minimum sewer rental or charge imposed upon any such establishment shall be at the Rate identified below at Section 260-29(C). C. The rates in the foregoing Sections 260-29(A) and (B) shall be as follows and shall be increased in future years as required to assure sufficient revenue for the Tamaqua Borough Authority to service the debt associated with the substantial upgrade of its wastewater treatment plant: Date Rate Beginning December 1, 2025 $600 per annum, payable at the rate of $150 per quarter Beginning December 1, 2027 $680 per annum, payable at the rate of $170 per quarter This Ordinance shall be immediately effective upon its enactment.
