Notice is hereby given that the Borough of Tamaqua will conduct a public meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the Borough Building, 320 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the public meeting is, among other things, to discuss, inform and receive public comments on a proposed Ordinance for the Borough of Tamaqua, as follows: AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, REVISING AND AMENDING CHAPTER 24 ("FIRE DEPARTMENT"), ARTICLE I ("FIRE COMPANIES RECOGNIZED"), SECTION 24-1("FIRE COMPANIES RECOGNIZED BY THE BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA"), AND SECTION 24-4 ("PURPOSE"), SECTION 24-6A(1)("ASSISTANT CHIEFS") AND CHAPTER 30 ("FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION") SECTION 30-1 ("RECOGNITION OF VOLUNTEER FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION") OF THE BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA CODE OF ORDINANCES, RE-ESTABLISHING THE CITIZENS FIRE COMPANY, SOUTH WARD FIRE COMPANY, AND AMERICAN HOSE COMPANY NO. 1 AS MEMBERS OF THE VOLUNTEER FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION AND THE BOROUGH'S OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED FIRE COMPANIES WHILE, BY WAY OF OMISSION, DECERTIFYING, DEACTIVATING, AND SUSPENDING ALL PREVIOUSLY AUTHORIZED ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING FIRE PROTECTION AND/OR EMERGENCY SERVICES, OF EAST END FIRE COMPANY IN THE BOROUGH EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. BE IT ENACTED AND ORDAINED by Borough Council of the Borough of Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and it is hereby enacted and ordained by the authority of the same, to revise and amend Chapter 24 Article I, § 24-1, § 24-4, § 24-6A(1) and Chapter 30, §30-1, to read as follows, with all other provisions of Chapter 24 and Chapter 30 remaining in full force and effect except where expressly revised or otherwise contradicted hereby: Chapter 24 Fire Department § 24-1 Fire companies recognized by the Borough of Tamaqua. The Citizens Fire Company, South Ward Fire Company, and American Hose Company No. 1, duly organized and existing in the Borough of Tamaqua, County of Schuylkill, and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, are hereby designated as the officially recognized fire companies of the Borough of Tamaqua. § 24-4 Purpose. The purpose of this article is to recognize the Citizens Fire Company, South Ward Fire Company, and American Hose Company No. 1 as the official fire companies of the Borough of Tamaqua and to define the additional authorized activities for firefighters for liability and workers' compensation purposes. § 24-6. Assistant Chiefs. A. The Borough of Tamaqua shall recognize two Assistant Chiefs of the Fire Department, (1) The Assistant Chief of the Fire Department is selected by each of the respective fire companies and will present their name to the Borough on a yearly basis. The seniority rotation of the Assistant Chief of the Fire Department will be based on the seniority rotation in place. Chapter 30 Firemen's Relief Association § 30-1 Recognition of Volunteer Firemen's Relief Association A. The following association is hereby recognized as actively engaged in providing fire protection and/or emergency services in the Borough of Tamaqua: Fireman's Relief Fund Association of Tamaqua. It represents the Citizens Fire Company, South Ward Fire Company, and American Hose Company No. 1 which are the officially recognized fire companies of the Borough. The association has been formed for the benefit of its members and their families in case of death, sickness, temporary or permanent disability or accident suffered in the line of duty. B. The above-named Association of the Borough is designated the proper association to receive such funds as are due and payable to the Borough Treasurer by the Treasurer of the State of Pennsylvania from the tax on premiums from foreign fire insurance companies.
