NOTICE is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, will consider for adoption at a Public Meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. on the 18th day of May, 2026, at the Bethlehem Township Municipal Building, 4225 Easton Avenue, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, an Ordinance of the Board of Commissioners of Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania amending Chapter 131, "Fire Prevention" of the Township of Bethlehem Code of Codified Ordinances , Section 131-1 Definitions, of the Adopted 2018 Edition of the International Fire Code. Copies of the proposed Ordinance are available for review at the Bethlehem Township Municipal Building located at 4225 Easton Avenue, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania during normal business hours. The following is the proposed Amendment: ORDINANCE NO. ___ - 26 AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BETHLEHEM, NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 131, "FIRE PREVENTION " OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BETHLEHEM'S CODE OF CODIFIED ORDINANCES, SECTION 131-1 DEFINITIONS, OF THE ADOPTED 2018 EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority granted by the First-Class Township Code, the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania (the "Board"), has from time to time adopted provisions from the International Fire Code, the last such enactment being the adoption of the 2018 International Fire Code, pursuant to Ordinance No. 02-24, being duly ordained and enacted at a regular public meeting of the Board of Commissioners on May 6, 2024; and WHEREAS, the Board desires to amend Chapter 131, "Fire Prevention" of the Bethlehem Township Code of Codified Ordinances; § 131- 3 Definitions to address departmental roles. NOW THEREFORE BE IT AND IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Bethlehem, County of Northampton, and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as follows: SECTION 1. The Bethlehem Township Code of Codified Ordinances, Ch. 131 Fire Prevention; § 131-1. Definitions is amended by adding the following: "FIRE CODE OFFICIAL The building code official or other designated authority charged with the administration and enforcement of the code, or a duly authorized representative." SECTION 2. SEVERABILITY. The provisions of this Ordinance are severable, and if a court of competent jurisdiction declares any provision of this Ordinance to be invalid or ineffective in whole or in part, the effect of such decision shall be limited to those provisions which are expressly stated in the decision to be invalid or ineffective, and all other provisions of this Ordinance shall continue to be separately and fully effective. SECTION 3. REPEALER. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances or Resolutions conflicting with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 4. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING The Zoning Hearing Board of the Borough of North Catasauqua, PA will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 5:30 PM in Borough Hall located at 1066 Fourth Street, North Catasauqua, PA 18032. The subject of the hearing will be: APPEAL No. 2026-03. The Applicant, Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown, will appear before the Borough of North Catasauqua Zoning Hearing Board to appeal the denial of a zoning permit for a property located at 1001 - 1003 2nd Street, containing a cemetery and two structures. The Diocese seeks to create a two-lot subdivision to separate the cemetery from the portion of the property containing the structures. LEHIGHTON BOROUGH CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION NOTICE OF FULL TIME POLICE OFFICER TESTING The Lehighton Borough Civil Service Commission will be administering an entry level examination to fill a vacancy for Police Officer and to update the Civil Service List. The examinations, agility, oral and written tests will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026. The physical agility testing will be administered at Baer Memorial Park at 9:00a.m. Location of the written and oral examination will be at the Lehighton Borough Hall, 1 Constitution Avenue, Lehighton, PA at 11a.m. The Borough of Lehighton is located in Carbon County, Pennsylvania and has a population of 5,300. The Lehighton Police Department currently has 11 sworn, full time officers. For the year 2026, the base salary is $86,794.85. An entry level police officer starts at 75% of the base salary ($65,096.14); they will reach 100% after four years of service. A newly hired officer who has at least two years of full-time service as a police officer will start at 90% of base salary ($78,115.37); reaching 100% after two years of service. Officers are also entitled to an employee benefits package, longevity bonuses, and newly added $2,000 sign on bonus. Employee will forfeit sign on bonus if not retained by employer or self terminates within the first 18 months of employment. All applicants for the examination must submit a completed application. Applications may be picked up at the Lehighton Borough Hall, 1 Constitution Avenue, Monday through Friday, between 8:30a.m. and 4:30p.m. Applications must be returned to the Office of the Borough Secretary by Friday, May 15, 2026 at 4:00pm. Testing and hiring of entry level police officers will be pursuant to the Borough of Lehighton Civil Services Rules and Regulations. The receipt of applications and testing is not a guarantee that the Lehighton Police Department will be hiring in 2026. Applicants for testing must be a U.S. citizen; must be age 21 on or before date of written test; must be a high school graduate or possess a GED; and must have a valid Pennsylvania operator's license. Evidence of Veteran status must be presented upon submission of the application. Evidence of successful completion of Act 120 training must be provided if and when hired.
