NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Township of Towamensing, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, intends to pass an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE OF TOWAMENSING TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 80-1 ENTITLED 'AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF TOWAMENSING FIXING THE TAX RATES FOR THE PHYSICAL [SIC] YEAR 1980' IN WHICH THERE IS A REENACTMENT OF THE PER CAPITA TAX ORDINANCE IMPOSING A PER CAPITA TAX OF $5.00 ON EACH AND EVERY RESIDENT AND INHABITANT OF THE TOWNSHIP OF TOWAMENSING 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OVER."
This ordinance exempts individuals who meet either of the following criteria from payment of the per capita tax:
A. Any person who has served in any war or armed conflict in which the United States was engaged and is honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active service if, as a result of military service, the person is blind, paraplegic, or a double or quadruple amputee or has a service-connected disability declared by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or its successor to be a total 100% permanent disability. Proof for this exemption shall include such person's Form DD-214 and a declaration of such service-related disability by the United States Veterans Administration.
B. Any person who serves as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces and is called to active duty at any time during the taxable year. For purposes of this section, "reserve component of the armed services" shall mean the United States Army Reserve, United States Navy Reserve, United States Marine Corps Forces Reserve, United States Coast Guard Reserve, United States Air Force Reserve, the Pennsylvania Army National Guard or the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. A copy of such person's deployment orders shall be sufficient proof to qualify for this exemption.
The reason for this tax is to honor those persons who have sacrificed for our country and those persons who are serving in the reserves and called to active duty. It is estimated that the loss of revenue due to these exemptions will not exceed $200.00. A separate advertisement will appear setting forth the provisions of the ordinance and stating where the ordinance may be examined by anyone who wishes to inspect it.

NOTICE OF CATASAUQUA ZONING HEARING # 2026-3

The Catasauqua Zoning Hearing Board will hear the following appeal on Tuesday November 17, 2026, at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Complex, 90 Bridge Street, Catasauqua PA 18032. . Appeal # 2026-3
Appeal of Nabeel Shammas 7087 Venice Sq. Bethlehem Pa. 18107 for an "SE" Special Exception designation for 132 2nd St. the application identifies an existing single-family use and proposes a change to two dwelling units. Section 280-29 A (34) of the Zoning Ordinance and the Table of Permitted Uses Primarily Residential Districts 280 Attachment 1, provide that a use designated "SE" is a special exception use for which the zoning decision is made by the Zoning Hearing Board. Under the applicable Table of Permitted Uses, conversion of an existing building into an increased number of dwelling units in the R-3 District requires approval by special exception. Accordingly, authority to approve such a conversion lies with the Borough's Zoning Hearing Board.
In addition, the applicant is also seeking a variance from Section 280-38 Table of Off-Street Parking Requirements: Residential use, Dwelling Unit 2 per dwelling unit the variance would allow the single family twin to be converted to a two dwelling unit property. The existing lot and building configuration limit the ability to provide the required additional off-street parking without substantial alteration of the property.
Applicants must be present for their hearing. Parties interested in a scheduled hearing may review the application and supporting documents at the municipal building during regular business hours.
